Half of Myself

Ho Sze Lo

200cm x 160cm x 200cm

My work explores my desire to be an escapist, I hide in the crowd to become invisible but I always remain visible. Although I am trapped in this contradiction, I have to forsake half of my own, so as to pander to the society.

My installation refers to this condition, where the half figures become whole but distorted when united with their mirrored image. The reflection is reflected repeatedly so it is difficult to define between real and simulacra. The broader theme surrounding this work is to question the role of the individual within society and to pose questions of how best to validate existence.
